The Rite of Light (Initiation Task)

Purpose

The Rite of Light is a simple but powerful ceremony. It welcomes new photographers into the Circle of Light by asking them to share a piece of themselves. It is about honesty, wonder, and spirit — not technical perfection.

The Three Steps of Initiation

1. The First Offering – The Pledge Photo

Task: Create one photograph that represents your journey.
It could be about:

• Curiosity (beginner’s eyes )

• Wonder (childlike joy ✨)

• Childhood memory (innocence )

• Light itself (hope, discovery ☀️)

Tone: “Your first offering isn’t about showing skill. It’s about showing your heart. What image carries your story right now?”

2. The Story Behind the Image – Reflection

✍️ Task: Write a short reflection to accompany the photo.
It can be:

• A poem

• A caption

• A short letter

Tone: “Tell us not what the photo is, but what it means to you. Every word is a window into your heart.”

3. The Circle Share – The Gift of Belonging

Task: Present your photo and reflection to the Circle. This is their first gift — an offering of belonging.
Once shared, the Circle welcomes them as a full member.

Tone: “The moment you share, you step across the threshold. You are no longer a guest. You are one of us.”
